Hotel Tryp Bellver, Palma, Mallorca
Palma de Mallorca (Majorca) has become one of
the world's most popular holiday destinations. It’s a delightful mixture of old and new - a beautiful city offering the best choice of hotels and
restaurants along with the widest choice of entertainment and some amazing beaches.
Palma is a modern, vibrant city, but it has also managed to retain its old town with its
ancient culture and charm. Some of Palma's best attractions are to be found near the port, including the Royal Palace, the Stock Exchange and the
Castle of Bellver that has dominated the skyline since the 14th century. However, Palma's pride and joy has to be the Cathedral, La Seu, one of
the world's finest and largest Gothic structures.
Old Palma is typified by the area immediately surrounding the cathedral. Mazes of narrow alleys
and cobblestone streets recall the era when Palma was one of the chief ports in the Mediterranean. The old town fans out from the cathedral and
is a maze of narrow streets, flanked by historic buildings and hidden squares. The best way to see the old town is on foot. It can easily be seen
in a day and there are plenty of quiet little squares and parks where you can stop off for tapas and drinks along the way.
Almost half the entire population of the Balearic Islands live in Palma, some 325,000 of them,
although this number can swell to 600,000 in the summer. Palma was recently voted the best place in Spain to live.
